The Greenbuild LivingHome, designed and developed by LivingHomes, features market-ready and replicable design innovations, modular construction systems and a wide range of certified products selected to meet advanced performance criteria for energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, durability and materials and resource attributes.  It is ENERGY STAR® v3 Certified and has been designed to meet LEED for Home v4 Platinum requirements. In addition, it achieves several of LivingHomes’ Z6 environmental goals, includes a wide range of Cradle to Cradle® certified products, and integrates many of the new International WELL Building Institute certification guidelines.

“The Greenbuild LivingHome is designed and built according to very high performance, health, and sustainability standards,” said Peter Goldstone, CEO of Hanley Wood. “The collection of products and the builder used for the construction of the home passed a very rigorous selection process. Palm Harbor Homes’ engineering team and modular construction process contributed in a significant way to the success of the project.  We are grateful to Palm Harbor Homes for their support.”

Palm Harbor’s engineers worked directly with the architectural and design team on the 2014 Greenbuild LivingHome. Actual construction took place in enclosed factories with engineer-prepared shop drawings, resulting in minimal waste. Among many of the waste reducing and energy conserving features utilized, our advanced framing techniques reduced lumber usage and grade one insulation installation allows for minimal conditioned air loss.

The three modules comprising the LivingHome were built to 70% completion in Palm Harbor’s building center and shipped on steel frames to the site. There, cranes placed the modules onto the elevated foundation where they were secured in place, crews weathered them in and completed the finish out.

After demonstrating the latest green building technologies and practices at the 2014 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the home will be permanently place on a Make It Right site in New Orleans’ 9th Ward to become part of Make It Right’s ongoing Katrina recovery efforts.
